ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) reports that Steve Wengler of St. Louis became the most recent record-breaking angler in Missouri when he hooked a skipjack herring on the Mississippi River using a rod and reel.
On this date at approximately 7:10 AM, deputies responded to the 200 block of Maple Lake Court in Villa Ridge in reference to a possible homicide. Sheriff’s Office Communications had received a phone call from the owner of the residence who reported that he had arrived home from work this morning and found his wife laying on the floor and 7-year old daughter deceased.

This non-profit organization has been holding events like these for sixteen years. This was the first year that they chose New Haven as a clean-up site. On the afternoon of April 22nd, Franklin County Deputies responded to the area of Champion Lane near Villa Ridge in regards to a stolen tractor. While in route, witnesses began contacting the Sheriff's Office regarding a suspicious white male on a tractor concealing his facial identity while traveling westbound on St. Mary’s Road.
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – On this Earth Day 2016, Gov. Jay Nixon announced that state agencies have saved Missouri taxpayers more than $44 million through energy reduction efforts over the past seven years. The savings are a result of an executive order issued by the Governor in 2009 that put forth energy reduction goals. State agencies have not only met, but exceeded, those goals. Jay Nixon today signed House Bill 1983 to prohibit statewide elected officials and members of the General Assembly from receiving compensation as paid political consultants for other state elected officials or candidates for those offices, as well as committees that support a candidate, issue or ballot measure. The measure is one of the ethics reforms that the Governor has called for each year he has been in office, including in the comprehensive plan he put forward in October.

The National Blue Ribbon Award recognizes public and private elementary, middle, and high schools based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. New Haven High School received this award in September 2015. JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Following the release of pay equity best practices guidelines by the Women’s Foundation and the University of Missouri Institute of Public Policy, Gov. Jay Nixon today directed the Office of Administration to lead an interagency effort to review the final guidelines and make recommendations for promoting pay equity in the state workforce.
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Gov. Jay Nixon today visited the St. Louis Agency on Training and Employment to sign Executive Order 16-04, to lessen barriers to individuals with criminal histories attempting to enter the workforce, lower recidivism rates and improve public safety. The executive order will “ban the box” in state employment by placing questions relating to criminal history later in the hiring process in order to provide these applicants a fair opportunity to compete for jobs.
STONE COUNTY, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) reports James Wright of Cape Fair became the most recent record-setting angler in Missouri when he hooked a white bass on Table Rock Lake on a trotline. The new “alternative method” record white bass caught by Wright on April 6 weighed 3-pounds, 4-ounces with a length of 18 3/4 inches. Wright was using shad for bait to try to catch catfish, but instead he caught a state-record white bass. On April 10, at approximately 8:20 PM, deputies responded to Timber Trail Dr. and Whisky Creek Rd. for a report of shots fired. The reporting party advised that a male subject fired a weapon at people at their location, possibly two shots. The caller reported that the suspect had left the scene and gave a description of the vehicle.
By Ereka Bailey This year, the annual band booster trivia night was held on Saturday, March 19th, and it was a success. There were 14 tables that night, and the silent auction collected $1848. On April 7th at approximately 4:05 PM, deputies were dispatched to the 4000 block of Hwy. V in Villa Ridge in reference to a peace disturbance involving an intoxicated female. The reporting party stated that they believed they may have heard a gunshot.
The Sheriff’s Office recently received an inquiry asking if there were investigation(s) that we may be conducting at a school in Franklin County related to students sending nude photos over social media, mainly cell phones.
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Missouri Office of Administration has put forward new rules to increase efforts to promote diversity, provide greater opportunities for minority and women-owned businesses, and encourage the creation of small businesses.
On April 4th, at approximately 12:08 PM, deputies were dispatched to the 7000 block of Rye Creek Rd, in Lonedell, MO for a report of a man lying on the ground in a brush fire, possibly deceased.
Family members stated that they had left the house at around 10:45 AM, and were gone for about an hour. The victim, Dennis Taylor Sr, age 66 remained at home. When they returned to the residence they noticed smoke and eventually noticed a grass fire as they approached the residence. They observed the victim, Dennis Taylor, lying on his back in an area of the fire who was not breathing. Ambulance personnel responded to the scene however Mr. Taylor was deceased. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death. No foul play is suspected at this time. |
