Scholarship Recipients 5/19/22

5/24/2022

HOENER RECIPIENT OF KATHRYN SPORE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Lucy Hoener was the recipient of the 1st annual Kathryn Spore Memorial Scholarship at the 2022 commencement exercises at New Haven High School.  Lucy is the daughter of Josh and Jaime Hoener of New Haven.

The Kathryn Spore Memorial Scholarship is in honor of a longtime English and history teacher here at New Haven High School.  In August 1965, she moved to New Haven High School, where she taught English and American History until May 1997.  For Kathryn, teaching was a passion, not a profession. Her great desire to bring literature, music, and American history alive to her students is perhaps her greatest legacy, in addition to her singular personality and enthusiasm. Each student who went through NHHS during Kathryn’s teaching tenure was impacted by her.  She is truly a Shamrock legend.

Lucy was active in many organizations and held officer positions in those organizations, including FBLA President, FCCLA President, FCA Secretary, National Honor Society Treasurer, and Student Council Vice President.  She was team captain for her volleyball team, a member of the track team, and a member of the marching band auxiliary.  Lucy earned many awards and achievements while participating in sports and organizations while in school.

Lucy will continue her education at the University of Missouri – Columbia seeking a degree in entertainment.
