If you knew a book was going to be adapted into a movie, would you still read it? Or would you skip straight to the movie? Many books such as the
Notebook, 12 Years a Slave, and the Harry Potter series have all been transformed into motion pictures. So, the question is: which is better, the book or the movie?

Editorial: Change Isn’t Always A Bad Thing

10/7/2015

Senior year is supposedly the “best year of your life” when it comes to being in school. My senior year completely changed my life. I moved to New Haven from Webster Groves. This is  a big change to me because Webster has around 500 kids per grade, while the New Haven district has around 500 in the district.

Thankfully, everyone in New Haven is super sweet and welcomed me with open arms. I never expected a school, especially high school, to have such good vibes. Honestly, I am so thankful for moving here because it’s a fresh start for me. Starting all over for “The best year of my life,”  wasn’t exactly ideal. It turns out my negative attitude at the beginning of the year flipped around after my first day here.

Seniors Pass the Torch

3/1/2015

As most of us know, high school can be a mix of good and bad. Those four years will be some of the best and worst years of a student’s life, but what everyone needs to remember is it is what each person makes of it. Being a senior comes with a lot of baggage; suddenly we’re the big kids on the block. We’re supposed to be older, wiser, and on top of the high school food chain. For some of us, the hype of being a senior hasn’t quite lived up to its expectations; for others, it’s been the time of their lives! So here’s some great advice for just about any high school students:

Is Bigger Really Better?

2/26/2015

Imagine this: a struggling student is in desperate need of help from his or her teachers. Instead of giving the help he or she desperately needs, that student’s teachers are struggling to keep a class of thirty students’ attention. This is the case for a lot of students who are attending large schools. Many students who go to a large school tend to fall under the radar, letting their grades slip. However, schools with a small student population have proven to benefit students and teachers in many ways.

Bod Mod Judgement

2/20/2015

Trailer trash. Isn’t this what comes to mind when thinking of tattoos, piercings, and any other forms of body modifications? However, that stereotype usually is not the case. Some people lack the ability to think openly when they’re actually critically judging people with body modifications. There are countless elements to consider when encountering people with piercings, tattoos, subdermal implants, or any other form of body alteration.

Healthy Lunch For You

2/12/2015

Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low sodium--these are just a few criteria that cafeteria workers have to look out for. “We try to serve nutritious meals that students will enjoy and [that will help them] do better in school activities,” head of NHHS’ cafeteria Mary Wilson stated. Some school districts, including New Haven, have been going by these guidelines before they were made to.

The Unnecessary Outcome

12/17/2014

“Hey, batta batta, hey!”  What voice did you hear in your head? It was probably deep and masculine, and thinking of a man in a baseball uniform is normal. Who would think of softball? There is a definite reason why softball was created--by the means of sexism. To prove this point, one can look at the very first time softball was actually played and the reasons why.
