Last week, Bank of Franklin County made a donation to New Haven High School. The donation was the fourth annual payout from Bank of Franklin County's school spirit Shamrock Debit Card program. Pictured above are Chip Stutzman, NHHS Principal and Angie Scheer, New Haven Branch Manager JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) wants deer and turkey hunters to know that its Telecheck system for reporting harvests will ask some new questions this fall and winter when hunters check their game.
Telecheck will ask deer hunters who harvest does if the distance from the edge of the eyeball to the edge of the nostril is greater than 4.5 inches. For deer hunters who harvest antlered bucks, Telecheck will ask if the circumference of an antler one inch above the base is greater than 2.5 inches (the approximate circumference of a nickel). The measurement request will not apply to hunters who harvest button bucks. MDC advises hunters to take a tape measure or other measuring device with them while deer hunting. For hunters using paper permits, MDC has included a handy ruler on all printed deer permits. The measurements will help Department staff better determine age classes of harvested deer as part of MDC’s deer management efforts. To help assess the impacts from crossbows on the archery-methods deer harvest, Telecheck will ask archery hunters if they used a crossbow to harvest their deer. The upcoming deer-hunting season is the first to allow crossbows under archery methods. Telecheck will also ask whether a deer or turkey was harvested on public or private land. The Conservation Department thanks Missouri’s deer and turkey hunters for their help. Get details on the new Telecheck requirements for deer and turkey harvests, along with other fall deer and turkey hunting information, from MDC’s “2016 Fall Deer and Turkey Hunting Regulations and Information” booklet, available where hunting permits are sold and online at mdc.mo.gov. Buy permits online at mdc.mo.gov/buypermits. Landowners, homeowners, businesses, and communities with candidate trees asked to contact the Department.JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is conducting its annual search for a large Christmas tree for use on the governor's mansion lawn in Jefferson City. MDC is asking landowners, homeowners, businesses, and communities that may have possible candidate trees to contact the Department. All entries must be submitted bySept. 30.
To qualify, the donated tree must be about 40 feet tall and either an eastern red cedar, Norway spruce, or white pine. Candidate trees must be fully branched on all sides and accessible by large equipment. The right tree may either be near the end of its life or may need to be removed for other reasons. Once a tree is selected, MDC staff will coordinate the cutting and delivery of the tree to the governor's mansion at no cost to the owner. The donor will receive a personalized thank-you from the governor and an invitation to the lighting ceremony, which usually occurs the first week of December. “It sometimes happens that homeowners, businesses, or communities have wonderful evergreens that need to be removed for home expansion, utility work, or other reasons,” says Forestry Field Program Supervisor Russell Hinnah. “Having your tree displayed at the governor's mansion is a wonderful way to share its beauty with thousands of Missourians who visit the mansion during the holidays.” Hinnah instructs people to take photos of candidate trees and email them toholidaytrees@mdc.mo.gov. Be sure to include a contact telephone number, location of the tree, and several pictures taken from different angles and distances. Candidate tree nominations can also be submitted by mail to: Missouri Department of Conservation, ATTN: Mansion Christmas Tree, P.O. Box 180, Jefferson City, MO 65102. Full guidelines are available at http://mdc.mo.gov/trees-plants/governors-mansion-christmas-tree-search. For more information or questions, contact the MDC Forestry Division at 573-751-4115. On August 15, a Franklin County Deputy observed a silver vehicle occupied by two individuals traveling east on I-44. The deputy noticed that the registration tab on the license was from 2015. The deputy conducted a traffic stop. The vehicle drove into the parking lot of the I-66 gas station in Gray Summit. Prior to stopping a white male exited the vehicle while it was still moving. The van continued on down W Osage toward Pacific.
The deputy ordered the subject that got out of the van to stop however he kept walking away. The deputy again ordered him to stop and he eventually did. While searching the subject the deputy located a substance believed to be methamphetamine and other drug related paraphernalia. The subject gave a false name when questioned. He was eventually identified and taken in to custody for investigation of narcotics violations and warrants. A second deputy was looking for the vehicle that fled. He entered Circle C Trailer Court outside of Pacific and was informed by a witness that a male and female just ran in to the woods. Deputies believed it was the two individuals who fled in the van. The van was located in Circle C. At around 5:00 PM, that same day deputies responded to two subjects walking the railroad tracks in the Gray Summit area matching the description of the subjects that fled in the van. Deputies made contact with a male and female. Both matched the description of subject that fled in the van. When approaching the subjects on the tracks both fled on foot but the male did eventually stop. He was taken in to custody for investigation of possession of narcotics. The female remained at large. The female was located later on in the Labadie area. She was taken in to custody for investigation of narcotics violations. She is 34 years old from the New Haven area. The male subjects were ages 43 from Labadie, and 26 from St. Louis. Both male subjects were on parole. Date: Saturday, September 3, 2016 @ 8:30 a.m.
