The New Haven School District has the following job openings: Special Education Director Director for Food Service Elementary Teacher Special Education Teacher Aide Middle School Girls Basketball Coach Cheerleading Coach Parents as Teachers Educator newhavenschools.tedk12.com/hire/index.aspx FARIS RECIPIENT OF SCHEER SCHOLARSHIP New Haven High School senior Grace Faris is this year's recipient of New Haven High School’s oldest privately endowed scholarship: The Scheer Memorial Scholarship. Grace, the Daughter of Mike and Carrie Faris, received the scholarship worth $5,000 at the school's 115th annual commencement exercise May 20th. The Scholarship is payable during a four year period. This is the 31st year for the scholarship honoring the memory of the late Clara and Milford F. Scheer and is funded by the Milford F. Scheer Charitable Trust. The family owned and operated Scheer Transfer Company, a New Haven based trucking firm until the company ceased operation in 1984. The firm was in business for nearly 55 years during which time they were active in many civic projects. Clara Scheer died on Dec. 20, 1976, and Milford Scheer died on Dec. 31, 1989. Representatives of the trust, along with a committee of faculty and school board members, selected Grace for the award based on academic performance and potential, interest in continuation of his education, character, and leadership. Grace was a member of the National Honor Society, FBLA, student council, and FCCLA. She played basketball, ran track and was a member of the marching band auxiliary. She earned many athletic awards and academic awards throughout high school. Grace also participated in many community service activities throughout high school. Grace will attend the University of Missouri - Columbia next fall to pursue a degree Physical Therapy. BORCHERDING SELECTED FOR WILLIAM N. KELLEY FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP Hannah Borcherding, has been honored as New Haven High School’s seventeenth recipient of the William N. Kelley Family Scholarship from the Class of 2021. Hannah is the daughter of Dale and Jennifer Borcherding of New Haven. The “William N. Kelley Family Scholarship for Science & Engineering Scholarship” was established by the William N. Kelley family, Mary, Bill, Bill, Jr., and Tim, to show their appreciation for the educational opportunities offered by the New Haven School District and to encourage the future of science and engineering in America. The scholarship is a $5,500 scholarship payable over 4 years. Only students planning on majors in engineering, science, or teaching science or math, are eligible to apply. Hannah was active in: FCA, FBLA, FCCLA, and National Honor Society. She was a member of the cross country team and the track team during high school. She was a member of the New Haven 4-H Club and the UCC Youth Fellowship outside of school. Hannah participated in many community service projects with her school and church organizations. She also works part time at Seitter’s Market. Hannah will continue her education at the University of Missouri in Columbia where she will pursue a degree in Agriculture Science. LIGGETT AWARDED 5TH ANNUAL GRADEN D. LOVELACE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP New Haven High School senior John Liggett is the recipient of the Graden D. Lovelace Memorial Scholarship for STEM. John is the son of Bruce and Sue Liggett of New Haven. The Graden D. Lovelace Scholarship for STEM was created to give students interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math careers an opportunity to further their education in those careers. The scholarship is worth $4,000 payable over 4 years. Only those students pursuing careers in STEM are eligible to apply. John was a member of the National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and FBLA. He was a member of the basketball team and track team all 4 years in high school. He ran cross country his freshman and sophomore year. He was awarded many honors in basketball and earned the Academic Activity Award all 4 years. John also participated in many community service projects through school and his church affiliation. John will continue his education at the University of Missouri where he will pursue a degree in Statistics and Sports Management. Liggett receives 14th annual Langenberg Family Scholarship
John Liggett was the recipient of the 14th annual Howard Langenberg Family Scholarship at the 2021 commencement exercises at New Haven High School. John is the son of Bruce and Sue Liggett of New Haven. The Langenberg family set up the scholarship fund to give the students at New Haven High school the opportunity to continue their education at a community college, college or university that leads to an academic degree. The scholarship is worth $5000 and is payable over a four year period. John was a member of the National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and FBLA. He was a member of the basketball team and track team all 4 years in high school. He ran cross country his freshman and sophomore year. He was awarded many honors in basketball and earned the Academic Activity Award all 4 years. John also participated in many community service projects through school and his church affiliation. John is planning to continue his education at University of Missouri in Columbia where he plans to pursue a degree in Statistics and Sports Management. Maggie is the daughter of Josh and Jaime Hoener. Maggie is involved in several school activities. She is on the volleyball, track and field team, and is a member of the National Junior Honor Society. Maggie has received the D.A.R.E. essay award, Positive Office Referral for her hard work, and was on the High Honor Roll. Outside of school, Maggie enjoys cooking, spending time with her family, and shopping. Maggie was nominated for student of the month because of her excellent work ethic, her great classroom participation, and the example she sets for other students. Maggie says that she really enjoyed her first year at New Haven Middle School, but is looking forward to a relaxing summer break! Ellie is the daughter of Todd and Julie Westermeyer. Ellie is very active at NHHS. She is a member of the student council, FBLA, and the marching band auxiliary. She is the class of 2021 secretary/treasurer, FCA president, FCCLA secretary, and NHS treasurer. Ellie is also a three-sport athlete. She plays volleyball, basketball and is on the track and field team. Ellie’s accomplishments include All-Conference, All-District, and All-State Volleyball awards. She has been the KLPW Athlete of the Week and earned the Academic Activity Award. She has received the Academic All-Conference award for Volleyball, Basketball, and Track. Ellie has been on the honor roll and received the Daughters of the American Revolution Award. Ellie is also active in her community. She is a member of the New Haven 4-H club and shows market hogs. In her free time, she enjoys hanging out with friends, shopping, and being outside. Ellie was nominated because she is a positive role model for her teammates.
