The New Haven School Board announced tonight the selection of Chip Stutzman as the new principal of New Haven High School and New Haven Middle School. Mr. Stutzman will assume the position August 1, 2016, replacing current principal Josh Hoener, who was recently hired as superintendent of the New Haven School District. Mr. Stutzman has most recently served as the principal of Hermann Middle School for the past six years. He has also served as the high school assistant principal, A+ coordinator, social studies teacher, head football coach, and head softball coach during his sixteen years in the Gasconade County R-I School District. Saturday and Sunday, June 18th and 19th, the New Haven Youth League hosted its 2nd Annual Softball Camp for 8th through 12th graders. The 2 day camp took place on Lions Field and Coach Chad Schatz instructed the camp. During the two days many training tools were used to help develop their skills. Coach Schatz is planning to add a one day clinic specifically for pitchers and catchers in the Winter and Spring of 2017. By Ashlyn Beckmann (7th Grade) Once upon a time, there was a land within a book. To get in, one had to open the book called The Neverending Story and wish to be there. Then, that person would get sucked into the book. Read Build and Play is on this Saturday June 18 at the branch. This week's theme is robots: we will build a bristlebot and play "Bugs in the Kitchen." Perfect for kids 4-12! Preschool Storytime is also happening this Saturday at 10:00 am. On your mark, get set, hide! There is still time sign up for summer reading program, too. All library programs are free, and everyone is welcome to attend. The annual Black Gold Softball Tournament returns to New Haven City Park on Saturday June 25 and Sunday June 26. An annual men’s fastpitch tournament in the area dates back to the 1960s. The Black Gold team is comprised mainly of players originating from Hermann, New Haven, Union, and Washington. Eric Steinbeck, Terry Coon, Cullen Speckhals, and Matt Benz are some of the long-time players , with recent area high school baseball standouts such as Jake Murphy, Jake Johnson, and Ben Held joining the team in recent years. Teams from Kansas, Illinois, and all parts of Missouri will battle it out in a round-robin format with two 4-team pools on Saturday. The top three teams from each pool advance to a single elimination tournament on Sunday. Black Gold plays at 10 a.m., 3 p.m., and 6 p.m. on Lions Field. Sunday’s single elimination games starting at 9 a.m. on both fields. The championship game starts at 1:30 p.m. Action starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday with two games. On Lions Field, Black Gold takes on the Tribe from St. Charles; while on Bock Field, speedy Kelso Fastpitch of Kelso, MO takes on two time defending champion Pinckneyville, IL Falcons. Boonville, MO Fastpitch and the Wizards of Oz from Silver Lake, Kansas return to the Classic this year, while new entry Bowen, IL Fastpitch and the Belleville, IL Stallions round out the field. Saturday and Sunday, June 11th and 12th, New Haven Youth League Hosted its 2nd Annual Softball Camp for 4th through 7th Graders. The 2 day camp took place at Lions Field and for the 2nd straight year our Camp Instructor was Coach Chad Schatz. Coach Schatz resides in Columbia, MO and is currently the pitching coach for the University of Detroit Softball Team.
23 girls attended this year’s camp and despite the heat, the kids learned a lot and had fun. The kids participated in drills to help develop their skill in hitting, fielding, throwing, pitching and base running. Hoener’s selection came as the result of a superintendent search conducted by the Missouri Association of Rural Education (MARE). The search generated applications from 14 candidates, and the board ultimately interviewed five finalists. No one could hear her, but she still had hope that maybe, just somebody, could hear her. On Sunday, June 5th, the New Haven Youth League hosted their 2nd Annual Baseball Camp at the American Legion Field. This year the camp instructor was Peter Arbov. Peter was born and raised in Bulgaria, Europe where he played baseball for the Bulgarian National Team. Peter attended High School at Elk Grove High in Chicago, Illinois. Peter is currently a Sophomore at Concordia University in Chicago, Illinois where he is a pitcher for the Concordia Cougars.

By Daniel Huff (8th Grade) In the land of Alanar, there was a young man named Mason. He grew up as the apprentice of the great swordmaster, Bord, a knight who fought in the Dragon Wars: a series of wars where the elves from the North and humans from the South teamed against the dragons and the black dragon king, Taconium. The dragons were created thousands of years ago by humans using dark magic, called Methanic, to alter their bodies. The elves and humans beat the dragons and forced them to retreat to the canyons in the east. When she came, everyone, even the soldiers who pledged their loyalty to me, turned against me and I was forced from my throne. The only one who was truly loyal to me was Gilda, my griffon. |
