The annual athletic awards ceremony will be held tonight, May 10th, at 6:30 pm in the high school gym. All high school sports will be honored. The Booster Club will provide drinks and cookies.
By LeeAnna Linton On Thursday, May 5, the New Haven Shamrocks baseball team had their last regular season home game against the St. Clair Bulldogs. The game took place at the American Legion baseball field, 4:30 PM. Keven McDowell has been named New Haven High School's recipient of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch Scholar Athlete Award. Keven has competed in cross country the past 3 years and in both basketball and track all 4 years of high school. Keven has lettered at the varsity level all 3 years in cross country, the past 2 years in basketball, and all 4 years in track. He was a key member of the 4th Place Class 1 State cross country teams both his junior and senior years. On the track he has received all-conference honors 3 different times for his role on various relay teams. As a sophomore, his 4x800m relay team garnered 2nd team all-conference honors. He received honorable mention all-conference in the same event. And finally as a senior, his 4x400m relay team won honorable mention honors at the Four Rivers Conference Meet. Academically, Keven ranks 3rd in his class. Keven will receive his award at Busch Stadium on Wednesday, May 18 prior to a St. Louis Cardinals game. Congratulations Keven! By LeeAnna Linton
Last Thursday, April 14, the New Haven Shamrock baseball team played against the Pacific Indians. The Athletic Awards night has been scheduled for Tuesday, May 10, at 6:30 in the H.S. gym.
The Sullivan vs New Haven baseball game that was rained out on Thursday, April 7, has been rescheduled for Wednesday, May 4. The game will be played at New Haven with a 4:30 start time and will be a varsity only contest. There will not be a JV game played. At this time, that is the only contest that has been rescheduled. By Ereka Bailey Another sports season started up at New Haven High School on February 29th; it is time for track and field season! The season for track and baseball is usually a good time here at New Haven High. The temperatures rise, athletes get to practice outside, and summer is drawing closer every second. By LeeAnna Linton On Friday, February 26, the New Haven girls basketball season came to an end. The girls’ last game was against the Clopton Hawks, in the class 2 district 4 championship game at Crystal City. By Patricia Weatherly and Rachel Connell As the boys’ basketball season came to an end, the coaches, Aaron Peirick and Johnny Viehland, as well as the players, reflected on their season. They thought about how well they did and what they could have done differently. These reflections are used to make the goals for next season. By Lauren Bergner and Ereka Bailey Friday, February 19, was Homecoming here at New Haven High School, and the coronation and dance were big hits. This past Saturday, February 6th, 2016, the New Haven 6th Grade girls played in their final tournament of the year in the Hermann Tournament. The tournament featured 6 teams and they were set up in Pool play. In Pool A was Hermann, St. James and New Haven. Pool B included Montgomery County, Warrenton and Pacific. By Lauren Bergner Monday, January 25, 2016, marked the opening day for the Hermann Varsity Boys Basketball Tournament. In their first round of tournament play, the New Haven Shamrocks played the Dutchmen of Owensville. The Shamrocks held the lead for the first three quarters, 9-7, 17-14, and 24-21. Lauren Bergner On Tuesday, January 26th, the New Haven Girls’ Varsity Basketball team started their journey in the Hermann Girls Basketball Tournament. This year’s girls varsity tournament was set up a little differently than in years past. Instead of typical bracket play, six teams were split into two pools. New Haven’s pool consisted of Wright City and Owensville. New Haven 6th Grade Girls played in the Owensville Tournament this past Saturday, January 30th. In their opening round game, they defeated Cuba by a score of 36 to 6 to advance to the Semifinal game against Montgomery County. By Emily Lewis and LeeAnna Linton On Friday, January 22, the New Haven High School junior varsity and varsity teams took on the Chamois Pirates for Pack the Gym. This game’s Pack the Gym theme was Hawaiian style. Every student in attendance won spirit points for their class and double spirit points if they dressed according to the theme. The class with the most spirit points at the end of the year will be treated to a pizza and ice cream party. This time around, sophomores won the pack the gym event with a 88% class turnout. The New Haven 6th Grade Girls Basketball team played very well in the Union Tournament this past weekend. In their opening round game, they defeated St. Clair by a score of 44 to 7. In the Semifinal game, New Haven defeated St. James by a score of 30 to 13 to advance to the Championship game against Owensville for a rematch from the New Haven Tournament. In the Championship game, New Haven won by a score of 32 to 14, taking home 1st Place. St. James won the 3rd Place game. Union took home 5th place and Pacific won Consolation. The 6th grade team will play in the Owensville Tournament this Saturday, January 30th taking on Cuba in their opening round game. The JV/Varsity Boys Basketball game at Linn that was cancelled this past Tuesday evening has been rescheduled for this coming Saturday (Jan. 23). The start time will remain at 6:00 pm and the bus time will remain at 4:10. Please help us to get the word out to parents and fans!
