Front Row left to right; Mackenzie Wilson, Brenna Langenberg and Lucy Hoener; Back Row left to right; Emma Rohlfing, Grace Flaherty, Peyton Sumpter and Miranda Yarbrough New Haven 6th Grade Girls played in the Owensville Tournament this past Saturday, January 30th. In their opening round game, they defeated Cuba by a score of 36 to 6 to advance to the Semifinal game against Montgomery County.
The Semifinal game was a back and forth game, and it came down to the last second. New Haven was up by eight late in the 4th quarter, but Montgomery County made three 3-pointers to put Montgomery up by one. New Haven made 3 out of 4 free throws down the stretch to win by a score of 33 to 32 and take on Owensville for the Championship.
New Haven and Owensville have met 3 times this year in three tournament championships at New Haven, Union and now at Owensville.
The Championship game was an exciting game and New Haven took home another 1st Place win by a score of 26 to 21. Steelville took home 3rd Place, and St. James won the Consolation game.
New Haven 6th grade will play in their last tournament this weekend in Hermann, where they have a first round bye. Their first game will be at noon on Saturday against the winner of St. James and Hermann.
