Saturday, July 15th from 9am-3pm Old New Haven School 1-hr individual/family sessions focusing on decisions and challenges associated with Alzheimer's and related disorders. The 2017 New Haven Community Youth Fair 5K Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, July 8th, 2017, beginning at 7:30 a.m. at the Boondocker Inn, 9487 Hwy 100, New Haven, MO.
Event T-shirts are guaranteed to participants who are registered by June 26th, 2017. Shirt sizes and availability will be limited for participants who register after the pre-registration deadline. Packet pick-up and race day registration will be available from 6:45 to 7:15 a.m. on race day. Refreshments will be available at the finish line. Trophies will be awarded to the top overall male and female finishers. Medals will be awarded to top 3 male & female finishers in youth age divisions (ages 19 and under) and to the top male & female finisher in adult age divisions (ages 20 and up). The registration fee is $15.00 if entries are postmarked by June 26th, 2017, and $20.00 if postmarked after June 26th, 2017. Registration fees are non-refundable. For the 3rd time in the last 4 years Black Gold finished 2nd in their own men’s fastpitch softball tournament, held June 24 and June 25 at New Haven City Park. Scores are below. Bowen was led by pitcher and leadoff hitter Julian Fernandez who pitched 19 scoreless innings for the tournament. Thanks to all who came out to play and watch.

Hitting – Black Gold was led by Cullen Speckhals and Jake Murphy who had multiple extra base hits Bracket Play 1st Round Black Gold 4, Falcons 2 Eric Steinbeck winning pitcher. A strong game by Ben Held at catcher held the Falcons scoreless after the 2ndinning. Black Gold scored 3 runs in the 1st inning to provide the margin of victory. Scott Borcherding, Cullen Speckhals, Jake Murphy got things started, Matt Benz finished things off with a double down the left field line. Bowen 7, Wizards of Oz 2 Kelso 11, McDaniel 5 2nd Round Black Gold 7, Tribe 0 (6 innings) Eric Steinbeck with the shutout, helped by catcher Terry Coon in the first inning with a great tagout on a play at the plate. Hitting stars were Speckhals, Keaton Rohlfing, Conner Lane, and Matt Benz 2 for 3. Great defense at 2nd base by Taylor Cox. Bowen 3, Kelso 0 Championship Bowen 5, Black Gold 0 Steinbeck took the loss. Jake Johnson tripled for Black Gold and Jake Murphy and Scott Borcherding singled. The annual Black Gold Softball Tournament returns to New Haven City Park this coming weekend on Saturday June 24 and Sunday June 25. An annual men’s fastpitch tournament in the area dates back to the 1960s.
The Black Gold team is comprised mainly of players originating from Hermann, New Haven, Union, and Washington. Eric Steinbeck, Terry Coon, Cullen Speckhals, and Matt Benz are some of the long-time players, with recent area high school baseball standouts such as Jake Murphy, Jake Johnson, and Ben Held joining the team in recent years. Teams from Kansas, Illinois, and all parts of Missouri will battle it out in a round-robin format with two pools on Saturday, then single elimination tournamentSaturday night and Sunday. Action starts at Saturday morning with two games. On Lions Field at 10am, Black Gold takes on the Kelso Fastpitch, which recently finished 3rd in the 13 team Kelso Classic. On Bock Field at 10:30am, the Pinckneyville, IL Falcons take on last year’s defending champion Boonville, MO Fastpitch. The St. Charles Tribe, Bowen Fastpitch from Bowen, IL, and the Wizards of Oz from Silver Lake, Kansas also return to the Classic this year. Black Gold plays at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Lions Field. Single elimination games starting at 5pm Saturday night and resume on Sunday at 9 a.m.. The championship game starts at 1:30 p.m. Black Gold finished 3rd in last year’s tournament. For the third year in a row there will be a mens’ fastpitch softball reunion held at the pavilion near Lions Field starting at 2 p.m. Saturday. Seventy former players from all over Missouri attended last year. All former players and fans from the state of Missouri are invited. “The Black Gold Classic is known for featuring good pitching and a very balanced field of teams,” said manager Eric Steinbeck. “We look forward to seeing everyone out at the ballpark.” Full concession stand along with BBQ pork steaks, burgers, hot dogs, and the ever popular popsicles will be available both days.
