On Thursday, March 31, the New Haven track and field team raced at the Union meet.
On the junior varsity boys side, St. Clair finished first with 207 points, Union finished second with 183 points, New Haven finished third with 156 points, and Sullivan finished last with 135 points.
On the varsity girls side, Union finished first with 293 points, New Haven finished second with 211.5 points, Sullivan finished third with 146.5, and St. Clair finished last with 135 points.
Sophomore Dalton Gerdes stated, “I think we all did well at Union as a whole. Most of us succeeded in a PR (personal record) in our events and the weather wasn’t to bad for a meet.”
In the 4x800 meter relay, the boys team made up of Ford, Blankenship, McDowell, and Stone got third place with a time of 9:21.79.
In the 100 meter hurdles, Emma Engelbrecht got third place with a time of 17.83 and Kate Ruediger got fourth place with a time of 18.00.
In the 110 meter hurdles, Damian Gale got third place on the junior varsity side with a time of 21.58.
In the 4x200 meter relay, the varsity boys team made up of Majors, Horstmann, Huff, and Kruse finished in third place with a time of 1:42.05. The junior varsity team made up of Blair, Gerdes, Groner, and Moeckli finished first place with a time of 1:45.75. The girls team made up of Engelbrecht, Bauer, Russo, and Zeitzmann got first place with a time of 1:45.75.
In the 1600 meter run, Julia McIntyre finished in first place with a time of 6:02.15 and Lydia Lagemann finished in seventh place with time of 6:54.14. Tim Madden finished in sixth place with a time of 5:13.45, Martin Lewis finished in seventh place with a time of 5:17.43, Joseph Rethemeyer finished in eighth place with a time of 5:28.01, and Nathan Ford finished in ninth place with a time of 5:36.09.
In the 4x100 meter relay, the girls team made up of Bailey, Bauer, Russo, and Zeitzmann finished in first place with a time of 55.56. The varsity boys team made up of Huff, Blankenship, Horstmann, and Kruse finished in second place with a time of 49.36. The junior varsity boys team made up of Blair, Gerdes, Groner, and Moeckli got first place with a time of 50.54.
Junior Nicki Zeitzmann pronounced, “I think my 4x100 team did really well at Union. We got first, and I think we all worked really well together and hard at the meet, and it showed.”
In the 400 meter run, Jon Stone finished in fourth place with a time of 57.42 on the varsity side. Domenic Olsen finished in sixth place with a time of 1:06.79 on the junior varsity side.
In the 300 meter hurdles, on the girls side Kate Ruediger got third place with a time of 52.84, Kate Weiser got sixth place with a time of 59.20, and Abby Perdue finished in seventh place with a time of 1:07.92. Damian Gale finished in second place with a time of 53.06 on the junior varsity side.
In the 800 meter run, Keven McDowell finished in fifth place with a time of 2:20.97.
In the 200 meter dash, Emma Engelbrecht finished in second place with a time of 27.97. Logan Huff finished in sixth place with a time of 26.19.
In the 3200 meter run, Julia McIntyre finished in first place with a time of 12:41.45. Joseph Rethemeyer finished in fifth place with a time of 11:38.23, Tim Madden finished in sixth place with a time of 12:04.24, and Martin Lewis finished in seventh place with a time of 12:08.04.
In the 4x400 meter relay, the girls team made up of Ruediger, Bauer, Gerlemann, and Zeitzmann finished in second place with a time of 4:19.84. The boys team made up of Kruse, McDowell, Majors, and Stone finished in first place with a time of 3:39.89.
Junior Alison Long stated, “It was a really good meet day. It was windy, so I think that helped me in my jumps. I obtained a PR (personal record) in my long jump, so I was very excited about that!”
