Another sports season started up at New Haven High School on February 29th; it is time for track and field season! The season for track and baseball is usually a good time here at New Haven High. The temperatures rise, athletes get to practice outside, and summer is drawing closer every second.
In previous years, the athletes had to practice on the upper track that has been there for years and is only made of chat, white gravel, and then another small portion of black asphalt. Yes, it sounds just as bad as it really is. It was very hard to get a good workout in with so many kids and so little space.
With this being the first year of having the best track that New Haven High School has ever seen, the athletes were pretty excited to start the season out on it.
Senior, Abby Perdue, stated, “I’m excited to actually have a real track to run on and I think that it will really help improve all of our times.”
Even though senior Andrew Menke plays baseball, he is hopeful that the track team will do well this season.
“I am very excited to see how our track team does this year. They have a lot of talented, hard working kids that should be able to do a lot of great things this year. Everyone should be excited about this team,” declares Menke.
A freshman athlete, Ethan Groner stated, I think it's going really good so far!! I think our team has a lot of potential and is bound for great things this year. I think the first practice was tough, but I think every first practice is like that!!”
In conclusion, it seems that everybody is excited for a great season to come!
The first meet is tomorrow, March 22nd, at St. Clair! Good luck to all of the athletes; we hope you have a fantastic track and field season!
