Furthermore, according to Social Networking Procon.org, 59% of students with access to the internet use social networking sites to do their homework, and 50% use social networking sites to discuss their assignments. At Georgia Middle School in Portland, Oregon, they introduced a networking site to help their students bring their grades up. Grades for the students went up by 50%. Chronic absenteeism went down by 33%. 20% of students school-wide voluntarily did extra credit. These numbers show that this networking site improved their students’ way of understanding and brought up their grades quite a bit.
As stated on Social Networking Procon.org, improving relationships and making new friends is another way that social media can help people. Social networking can connect people faster and help people that have family that live far away. 70% of adults use social media to keep in contact with friends and family. Teens that use these sites say it has greatly improved their relationship with friends. Due to most of the world having access to a social website, people can be connected to others without spending a fortune to visit them for a few days. With the touch of a button, everyone can stay connected with people that they know, and they can also meet new people through others.
Although social media may have its rough moments, there are many good outcomes when it comes to using a social network. Why talk negatively about connecting with one another when anyone can explore the world with a touch of a button?
