The annual Power of the Purse was held on Thursday, April 7, at Assumption School Hall to raise money for the United Way.
This year, this fundraiser raised almost $2,000. Just $100 provides 50 meals through Meals on Wheels, and $500 provides 80 backpacks of snacks for local backpack programs in schools.
Businesses all throughout the community have contributed to this charity. The beverages at the event were provided by Cedar Creek and the Liquor Cabinet.
Other organizations, including the New Haven Care Center, Citizens Bank, Bank of Franklin County, Mercy, the Vet Clinic, and more donated purses and attended the event to bid.
This event featured over 64 name brand purses like Calvin Klein, Coach, Kate Spade, Nicole, and more.
Renee Kunzel, who has association with Bank of Franklin County, said, “In past years, I bought the purse that my husband modeled. It’s all right though, because I always like the purse anyway.”
An employee stated, “This year we had a lot more people come than usual. We had to set a cut off, which is a first. There was just no room.”
Emcee for the night and Vice President of Finance for Bank of Franklin County said, “I have to admit that each year when the event is over, I always wonder how we can possibly top it the next year-but we did it! We topped the 200 mark in attendance, which is phenomenal. It was a packed house, and felt a little chaotic at times, but the evening received rave reviews from the attendees once again.”
We hope that the United Way can raise even more money next year. Good luck!
