On April 1, deputies received a traffic complaint from a motorist on I-44. The deputy was able to locate the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop however the driver refused to stop. The deputy terminated the pursuit at the Franklin, Crawford County, line and the Highway Patrol took over. The vehicle was later spiked in Crawford County and a male and female were taken in to custody for traffic violations. The occupants were from out of state. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) reminds people to “Be Bear Aware” by not feeding bears and not providing potential sources of food. Net general revenue collections for March 2016 increased by 13.5 percent compared to those for March 2015, from $667.0 million to $757.1 million. Jay Nixon today joined St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay, U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt, Congressman Wm. Lacy Clay and other federal, state and local officials to celebrate the announcement that the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency (NGA) has selected St. Louis City as its preferred site for its new western headquarters. Beginning April 1, the Ralph Gregory Library’s 2,280-item genealogy and local history collection will be available to be searched through Scenic Regional Library’s online catalog. The catalog can be found by visiting www.scenicregional.org and clicking on “Catalog” or going directly to http://scenicwashington.missourievergreen.org. The collection is housed at the Washington Historical Society, located at 113 E. 4th Street in Washington. The items will not be able to be requested or checked out; however, researchers will be able to visit the Ralph Gregory Library to use the items for research. At approximately 3:30 PM, on March 31, Sheriff’s Office Communications received a call that there was a fire at a residence in the 200 block of Northwoods Circle in Melody Lake outside of Leslie. The caller reported that there was also a deceased person and a second individual had left the scene.

On March 29, at approximately 10:00 PM, deputies responded to a report of an attempted kidnapping that occurred on Parkway Drive near Hwy 30. The 25-year old female victim stated that she was walking east on Parkway Drive toward Highway 30 when an older model blue in color Ford F-150 truck passed her going the opposite direction. She stated the truck turned around and began coming back towards her stopping alongside. She stated that the male slid across the seat, opened the door and grabbed her left arm, attempting to pull her into the vehicle. She then pulled away and began running toward Mount Zion Church. The victim stated that the vehicle attempted to follow her but the motor kept dying. The driver then drove away. Students were encouraged to invite their family members for a fun- filled event. American Pickers, a TV show on the History Channel, will be coming to the area in May. They are looking for leads on private collections of antiques, memorabilia, etc. They have emphasized they only want private collections and not flea markets, antiques shops, etc. JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) reports that Brent Newton of Holts Summit became the most recent record-breaking angler in Missouri when he hooked a record goldeye on the Osage River using a rod and reel. Goldeyes are a part of the mooneye family. They are silvery, flat-sided fishes with unusually large eyes and prominent teeth on the jaws, roof of the mouth, and tongue. Anglers often mistake the goldeye for the skipjack herring while fishing for bait. Citizens Bank in New Haven, Missouri, recently presented a check to New Haven High School. The money was provided through customers of New Haven’s Citizens Bank that use their school spirit debit cards.
Scenic Regional Library is embarking upon a two-year, $12.8-million building plan that will completely replace branch libraries in five communities and significantly expand and renovate two existing facilities. The project does not include plans for Union and Hermann, which are still in the developmental stage and will be addressed separately. All the new branches will feature programming rooms, which will also double as community meeting space, and on-site parking. The City of New Haven has received tentative approval for a federal grant to construct a pedestrian bridge over Highway 100. The City learned in early February that the project had been recommended for funding through the East-West Gateway Council of Governments. During the evening of March 13, local law enforcement were informed of an escape involving two inmates from Madison County, Mo. One of the suspects was wanted for murder. A former Franklin County Deputy and his family were visiting with the Sheriff at the time and were made aware of the dispatch. While returning home, the ex-deputy and his family observed a truck at the intersection of Hwy 47 and 50 North. The truck turned east on Hwy 50 and had markings stating Madison County Highway Department. Everyone is invited to join New Haven branch of Scenic Regional Library for Maggie’s Story. This dramatization of the life of an indentured servant will be presented on Thursday, March 23, 6:30pm at the Old New Haven School, 810 Maupin Ave.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo – Hunters, anglers, and trappers in Missouri have been buying permits online through the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) website since 2011 and through the free MDC “Mo Hunting” mobile app since 2014. Retail stores, convenience stores, and other places that sell permits will catch up to this online technology starting March 15.

Dig through those bookshelves, closets, and dry basements for books, DVDs and CDs to donate to the upcoming book sale sponsored by the East Central College Library. Through noon on Friday, March 18, the Library will accept gently used books including fiction titles, children’s books, and nonfiction. Books and magazines on hot topics such as diet, exercise, and cooking can also be contributed to the sale. They will also accept DVDs, Blu-rays and music CDs since many of those can be added to the Library's circulating collection. Encyclopedia sets or Readers Digest condensed books will not be accepted.
