“The love of a family is life’s greatest blessing.”
On Friday, March 18, New Haven Elementary hosted Family Day. The event started at 8:30 A.M. and ended at 10:00 A.M. Students were encouraged to invite their family members for a fun- filled event.
Arts and crafts was held in the gymnasium where students and their families created “Family Conversation Boxes.” The goal of creating these conversation boxes is to help families build better communication skills, as well as their relationship with one another.
In the cafeteria, students and their families were invited to eat breakfast with one another.
In addition to the arts and crafts and breakfast, students gave their families a tour of the school and their classroom. Some key features students were to asked to promote included the Leadership Rainbow, Catch of the Day, Star Art, and the Turtle Garden.
Student Ryanne McDaris mentions, “My favorite part was the tour because that's when I got to show my grandmother star art and the turtle garden...stuff that makes our school so cool!”
Another student, Logan Campbell, adds, “The best part of Family Day was that I could spend time with my family. I really enjoyed the classroom visits because I could show them my leadership binder!”
Was Family Day a success? Principal Kasi Meyer concludes, “We were looking for a way to involve more (ALL) children in Leadership Day and get more of the family and/community involved. Family Day is just that. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!”
