On this date at approximately 7:10 AM, deputies responded to the 200 block of Maple Lake Court in Villa Ridge in reference to a possible homicide. Sheriff’s Office Communications had received a phone call from the owner of the residence who reported that he had arrived home from work this morning and found his wife laying on the floor and 7-year old daughter deceased.
Deputies determined that the wife/mother was conscious and breathing but incoherent. She was transported by ambulance to St. Anthony’s Hospital in St. Louis for evaluation.
UPDATE:
Further investigation in to this morning’s death of the 7-year old female has led investigators to consider the mother as the possible suspect in the child’s death. The mother has made statements creating a reasonable belief of her involvement. The child’s death was a result of gunshot wounds. The exact reason for the child’s death is not certain at this time. The mother is identified as a 31-year old female from that residence. Her name is being withheld pending issuance of formal charges. Investigators will be meeting with the Franklin County Prosecutor this afternoon. The mother currently remains hospitalized.
