“I think the game went really well. Coach even complimented on our defense. Our defense was really good compared to our game against Bourbon. We also ran through the offensive plays really hard,” commented Mackenzie Bauer.
The Varsity game followed right after the junior varsity game ended. The starting line-up consisted of Megan Shockley, Taylor Covington, Makenzy Vedder, Erin Scheer, and Kayla Borcherding, who subbed in for Molly Munsinger. Throughout the first half, New Haven kept in the game. Senior Lindsey Nixon was constantly subbed in from the bench to provide help for defense in attempts to get the ball back in the possession of New Haven. The Shamrocks held the scores close until the beginning of the second half when Union pulled away to capture the win. The final score of the varsity game was 46-20, with Union winning.
“I think we played hard in the beginning, but when the pressure started to kick in, we got a little nervous,” mentioned Lauren Bergner.
“I think the girls did their best and pushed themselves throughout the entire game,” explained Jenny Gallardo.
The Junior Varsity and Varsity teams both played close games against the Union Wildcats, and even though Varsity didn’t take home the win, it was a constant battle on the court, which lead to an exciting game.
