On Saturday, September 24th, the Hancock Invitational cross country meet took place in Jefferson Barracks Park, St. Louis County. The Shamrocks, as well as several other schools from the St. Louis area, participated in the meet.
Several runners from New Haven marched in Sullivan that morning, leaving both teams short. Natalie Hoerstkamp, Grace Allgaier, Audrey Ford, Austin Moeckli, Keagan Huff, and Colton Ruediger were among them, so they ran earlier in the week at Belle to make up for their lost race.
The varsity girls’ race was the first of the day, starting at 8:00 A.M. Julia McIntyre, sophomore, came in first place overall, with a time of 20:27. Next came Lydia Lagemann, sophomore, with Lucy Roth and Emily Lewis, seniors, trailing not far behind. Cece Malone, sophomore, rounded out the team, coming in at 35:37. Julia McIntyre, 1st, Lydia Lagemann, 23rd, and Lucy Roth, 24th, all received medals for their top finishes. The team finished 5th overall with a point total of 105 points.
Emily Lewis, senior, mentioned, “I’m excited to see how we do as a team as the season progresses. I think we have a lot of potential, and running the times we did on such a tough course, it’s proof that we really can succeed as a team.”
The varsity boys’ race was run immediately after the girls’. New Haven’s top finisher, Joseph Rethemeyer, came in third with a time of 18:05. Other NHHS medalists included Tim Madden, 16th, and Martin Lewis, 22nd. Dominick Lewis, freshmen, Riley Otten, senior, and Dalton Gerdes, junior, followed for the boys’ team. The team won 3rd overall with 129 points, receiving their 2nd plaque of the season so far.
The final race of the day was the Junior Varsity boys’ race. Bubba Gale, senior, finished in 20th, with a time of 20:53. Hunter Garren, freshmen, finished with a time of 26:04.
Congratulations, Cross Country Shamrocks, and good luck at Hermann next Tuesday!
