New Haven High School will be having a Winter Ball dance and basketball game on December 9. The Winter Ball candidates for the freshmen are Mckenzie Overschmidt and Gavin Frick. In the sophomore class, it’s Miranda Durbin and Timothy Madden. For juniors, it’s Lauren Gerlemann and Abraham Madden. And for the seniors, it’s Emma Eichelberger and Zachary Vedder. They will be walking down the gym floor to the stage between the JV/Varsity game to see who will be the winners.
When asked about why he thought he was nominated, Gavin Frick, age 15, said, “I think I was chosen because my friends thought it would be funny to see me dress up.’’
Emma Eichelberger, age 17, said, “I do not know why I was chosen, but I hope my class sees me as a good representation of our senior class.”
Zachary Vedder, age 17, and Lauren Gerlemann, 17, both said they wanted to be nominated as the Winter Ball candidates and are happy that they get to represent their classes.
When asked about how they felt, they were all genuinely surprised, excited, and happy to be nominated as candidates.
Miranda Durbin, age 15, was asked what she is most excited about for the Winter Ball dance, and this is what she had to say: “I'm most excited for the pre-game. I'm a cheerleader, so it's going to be exciting to cheer and walk for the candidacy.”
Lauren Gerlemann was asked the same question, and this was her response: “I'm excited to stroll leisurely down the court with my pal, Abe.”
Timothy Madden, age 15, and Gavin both claimed they were excited to hang out with their friends at the dance. McKenzie Overschmidt, age 14, said she was excited about walking down the gym and excited for the dance after the game.
Of course, we can’t spoil what our candidates are going to be wearing (though we do know that our basketball players, Zachary Vedder and Abraham Madden, age 17, will be wearing their basketball warm-up suits).
Come to the JV/Varsity game on December 9, starting at 6:00 P.M., to see our dashing candidates and to cheer them on as they walk down the gym.
