As accustomed, the New Haven High School cheerleaders cheered on the boys while wearing Christmas hats to show their Christmas spirit. The student body also dressed up, wearing Christmas hats and sweaters.
“Silent Night” isn’t just about not cheering or talking until the tenth point, but also about students and cheerleaders singing Christmas songs. Between the first and second quarters, the cheerleaders went on to the floor to do their “Shamrocks Lets Do It” floor cheer. Once they were done, instead of coming off the floor doing another cheer, they started singing “Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer” while the students and parents joined in. As the game went on, the students decided that it was time for another song and started singing “Jingle Bells.”
Luna Tomasi commented, “I thought it was so fun even though I messed up some things. I think it was weird how we didn’t get to cheer until the tenth point, but overall it was fun.”
Zoie Mathis remarked, “I liked it. It was fun and different, and I loved seeing the crowd so enthusiastic.”
After singing Christmas carols and being so enthusiastic, the cheerleaders helped keep the varsity boys’ spirits up, as they won the game against Barat Academy.
