The first varsity boys' basketball game of the season was played against the Belle tigers on November 24. Though the Shamrocks fought hard, they couldn’t take the Tigers down.
At the end of the first quarter, it was all tied up between the two teams at eight points with Will Soete for the Shamrocks scoring four of the eight. Also in the first quarter, senior Zach Boehmer twisted his ankle when he came down from trying to rebound a ball. Boehmer came out of the game, and then returned later in the fourth quarter, but he was still not at 100%.
In the second quarter, the Shamrocks fought hard, but couldn’t quite stay up to speed with Belle. The first half ended with the scores of 19 by Belle and 15 from New Haven. The third quarter was just about the same, ending with Belle at 29 and New Haven at 23.
Even though the game didn’t quite end how the boys may have wanted it to, the fans were still very proud of them for working hard. Cheerleader Emily Lewis stated, “Even though we lost and made a few mistakes, we still played a pretty good game. During the first half, I thought we were going to win! We have high hopes for the team this season."
