¨Most movies we are showing is the fastest we can get them. While we are in such a small town and on a lower priority for premieres than most other theatres, along with it being more expensive, we generally get movies a couple weeks late. Our movie right now, Into the Storm, is three weeks late, while our next movie, Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles, will be two weeks late.” David, the new manager, said. In addition to being relatively closer to most people who live in New Haven than the cinema in Washington, the Walt is also cheaper, which can provide a great alternative for movie nights. The employees are excited for the Walt’s re-opening and hope it will continue showing movies far into the future. -by Robbie Cichon
The Walt Theatre, on Front Street in New Haven, re-opened on Friday, August 29, 2014. This is the first time it has shown a movie in over a year. The Walt was initially closed down to update the projector to a digital and more modern version, along with adding a new sound processor. Additionally, there were some touchups to the paint and general look of the theatre. With the Walt being re-opened, a new manager, David, is also being trained. High schoolers were hired to help out with management as well, and the theater premiered its first movie last weekend. The first movie the Walt showed was Into the Storm, rated PG-13. The tickets were priced at five dollars each, which is a dollar and fifty cents more than previously, due to the increased price of movies and newer equipment.
