Teachers Reflect on Preparation for the School Year

The start of the new school year is a busy and exciting time. Many people remember buying school supplies and new clothes in preparation for another year. It can be either exciting or nerve-wracking to meet teachers for the first time. After a long summer, students are always excited about seeing all their friends again!

The time frame that teachers begin getting ready for the new school year can range from May to August and preparations can take about one week to over a whole month.

There are sure to be some difficulties when preparing for new students when the school is changing so much. Mrs. Miller states, “The most difficult thing I had to do this year was learn the new curriculum for Child Development.” However, there is always help to be found for a teacher in need. “Mr. Hoener, Mrs. Borcherding, and the custodians are always available to answer questions,” says Mrs. Oelrichs.

For students, coming back to school and seeing that old classrooms have been totally redecorated can come either as a shock or a pleasant surprise. Many teachers had to add more desks to their rooms this year for the larger freshman class. As a new teacher, Ms. Kelly says that she is “still in the process of redecorating.”

The new school year is now underway, and the students appreciate what the teachers have done over the summer to prepare for another successful year!
