The boys’ varsity team took home fourth place this weekend, receiving a plaque and team medals. Nathan Ford was New Haven’s top runner, finishing in 27th with a time of 18:02.76. Dylan Goodwin was right on his tail, coming in with a time of 18:25.73 and finishing in 36th. Behind Dylan was Jon Stone in 50th, Dominick Pataky in 51st, and Keven McDowell in 52nd. The last runners to come in for New Haven were Kyle Brumels and Cole Lensing. Keven McDowell was happy to see how many fans showed up to cheer everyone on. “I just want to thank everyone who came out. It really means a lot to us.”
The girls’ team also ran hard, finishing in 10th as a team. Emily Lewis finished 1st for New Haven, in 27th. Behind Emily was Abby Grater, coming in 31st. Lucy Roth came in after Abby, and after Lucy were Hannah Kruse and Natalie Hoerstkamp. Natalie obtained her personal record at state, running her best time she’s ran all season. Hannah Kruse is a senior, and this was her last meet. “Thanks for such an awesome senior season. I’m going to miss everyone so much!” exclaimed Hannah. She especially remembered running Killer K’s workouts in practice.
State was a bitter-sweet moment for everyone. The team was happy that they were taking home a trophy, but sad this was the seniors’ last year. “Man, I’m gonna miss cross country. I can’t believe this is my last year,” stated Dominick Pataky. Mr. Tucker was more than happy with how his team finished. “You kicked it in at the end, and that’s what won this for us. You guys ran hard.”
This year’s cross country team was the first to bring two teams to state and also to place as a team in the top four. The boys team finished in 4th, against 16 teams. The boys brought home a team trophy, and team medals.
