Shamrocks Take Consolation

December 1-5th,  the New Haven boys competed in the Montgomery County tournament.  In the first game Kyle Ruediger had  24 of New Haven’s 35 points.  Kyle Ruediger said, “ I get the ball; I find ways to score and then also help my teammates get the ball and score too.”

The Shamrocks had a 20 point lead going halftime against Clopton. Going into the third quarter, the boys got into foul trouble and gave Clopton a chance to comeback.  Coach Pierick said after the game, “ We had such a big lead; we just gave up;  thats what good teams do, they come back and win the game, and we have to come into the next game and find a win.”

The third game was the Consolation game. Senior Kyle Ruediger had a career high of 35 points and was also the Montgomery County Tournament MVP. The Shamrocks went into Saturday night’s game feeling confident but knowing the Wildcats would be seeking revenge after New Haven ruined their undefeated season last year at New Haven. In the first half the Shamrocks built a 30-point lead. Going into halftime,  Mr.Pierick said, “ We are playing better than we have all year. Let’s finish this game and win.” This got the team pumped, and the Shamrocks forced Montgomery County’s top player to foul out in the third quarter. The Shamrocks were positioned to  win this game, but the Wildcats were slowly coming back. The  Wildcats beat the Shamrocks in the second half with more points, but the Shamrocks still came out on top.

Overall, it was a successful week for the Shamrocks as they came out of the Montgomery County Tournament with the consolation trophy.
