| By: Jacob Wilson For the first time in school history, our Shamrock volleyball team won the third place match at state. After going 0-3 in round robin play, the Shamrocks bounced back Saturday morning with a very exciting 3-set win over Eminence (25-16,16-25, 29-27). Junior Emma Engelbrecht finished the season leading the team in kills with 272. Junior Mackenzie Bauer led the team in assists with 479, and junior Lauren Gerlemann led the team with 311 digs. Commenting on the team’s performance this season, Coach Hoener quoted, “The girls accomplished a lot of big things this year, such as getting to the final four, and tying the school single-season record for number of wins. Hopefully, they can use the success that they experienced to help them achieve success in their other sports and life after sports.” Senior Kim Hoffmann quoted that, “We were very successful this season. We had some ups and downs, but it only made us stronger. I was very happy to end the season with a win, and I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to go to state in three out of my four years as a Shamrock.” New Haven had 2 players selected to the All-State team. Juniors Kate Ruediger and Emma Engelbrecht were both named to the Class One All-State First Team. Ruediger was also selected as the Four Rivers Conference Player of the Year, becoming the 5th Shamrock to be selected as FRC Player of the Year under Coach Hoener. We are all proud of you, ladies. Congrats on a great season! |
