On Monday, February 9th, the New Haven Lady Shamrocks played a very tough game against the Owensville Dutchgirls.
Students who attended the game said it was intense, and that our girls defended themselves very well and never gave up. Senior player Carlie Steinbeck says, “ We ran our offense really well, but our defense was not at it’s best, but we competed with Owensville and never gave up, even after we were down by a lot.”
The starting lineup on Monday night was all seniors: Megan Shockley, Molly Munsinger, Taylor Covington, Kayla Borcherding, and Makenzy Vedder.
In the first quarter, the Lady Shamrocks were down, but soon cut Owensville’s lead by six, causing their coach to call a time out. Molly Munsinger stated, “I thought as a team we had good ball movement and played hard the entire game!”
During the second quarter, Owensville stretched out in their lead. The Shamrocks still put up a fight and continued to make the Dutchgirls compete against them.
During the fourth quarter Megan Shockley took a lot of shots and was fouled, which took her to the line. Still making Owensville fight until the very end, the Shamrocks were defeated by the Owensville Dutchgirls. With a final score of 52-33, the girls walked off the court after a hard-played game.
