The Shamrock baseball team dropped their second game to start the season, as they fell to the Tigers of Wellsville-Middletown 13-2 this past Monday in Wellsville. New Haven took a 2-1 lead in the top of the 3rd inning. That would be the Shamrocks’ only lead of the game, as the Tigers followed with 9 runs in the bottom of the inning, never looking back from there.
Sophomore Cody Groner went 2 for 2 at the plate with a double. Senior Zack Vedder went 1 for 2 with a walk, 1 run batted in, and a run scored. Sophomore Trent Kormeier went 2 for 3 with a double and a run scored. Kormeier was also the starting pitcher for the Shamrocks. He pitched 3 innings, striking out 1 batter. Junior Owen Buchheit followed Kormeier and pitched 1 inning.
Kormeier commented on the game, stating, “I thought the first few innings were pretty good. From the third inning on, it got pretty rough. We made some errors that cost us a few runs, and they were just simply hitting the ball well.”
With the conclusion of the Four Rivers Classic this Saturday, the Shamrocks will play at Linn Monday with the first pitch set for 4:30 P.M.
