On Tuesday, December 15th, the Shamrocks boys’ basketball team played their first Four Rivers Conference (FRC) game at home. Not only did this game mark the first FRC game, it was also the last home game for the boys in 2015.
The night started with an intense double overtime game for the Junior Varsity. On the night, freshman Martin Lewis had 17 points, and junior Mark Senecal had 10. Although the Shamrocks had some big scorers, the Indians came out on top, overall winning 49-47.
Going into the varsity match, the Shamrocks knew it was going to be tough. Senior Jared Horstmann stated, “In order to win, we needed to play a perfect game. But just working hard was our main focus. I was excited to get out on the court and play. It's kind of bittersweet playing this team one last time.”
The third quarter arose new obstacles for the Shamrocks. Senior Jared Horstmann fell with a minor injury, and was taken off the court. He would later come back in for the Shamrocks. By the end of the third quarter, the Shamrocks were still down, 19-49.
The fourth quarter brought in freshman Martin Lewis, a point guard who had played in the devastating double overtime loss just the game before. Martin put up two points for the varsity. In the end, the Shamrocks fell to the Indians, 23-56.
The Shamrocks next game is Friday, December 18th, at St. James High School at 6 P.M. This is the Shamrocks second conference game of the year.
