In 2015, approximately 40,290 women will die of breast cancer. On October 8, 2015, the NHHS student body helped create awareness for breast cancer by wearing pink to the Shamrocks versus Pacific Indians volleyball match, which the Shamrocks won in two sets (25-22, 25-18).
“Pacific was a solid defensive team and it was good for us to be challenged like that,” says Head Coach Jaime Hoener.
Senior Erin Scheer led the team, serving 8 points. Senior Lauren Bergner followed with 6.
“Emma Borcherding and Emma Engelbrecht did a lot of things well in the front row for us,” Coach Hoener says.
Engelbrecht led the team in kills with 8 total. Borcherding and sophomore Kate Ruediger both followed with 7.
“The atmosphere was exciting because of all the fans in the stands wearing the pink shirts for breast cancer,” Borcherding says.
The Shamrocks will play their last regular season game at Fatima this Thursday night. They will begin districts on October 20th at Calvary Lutheran.
The Shamrocks have high hopes for the post season. “I think we have the work ethic and talent to make a deep run (into the post season),” Coach Hoener says.
Good luck girls!
