In the top of the first inning, Union had three singles, and a batter walked. That allowed four runs for Union in the top of the first. When the Shamrocks came up in the bottom of the first inning, they had a 1-2-3 inning and scored no runs.
In the top of the second inning, the Wildcats scored three runs by having the first batter walked, an error on the the second batter, a single, another single, and finally, a triple. By end of the second, the score was 7-0 Union. Andrew Menke discussed that part of the game: “ It felt good, but I wish we could have scored during those three innings ourselves.”
In the top of the 6th inning, the Wildcats scored one run from getting a walk to start the inning, a single, another single, and then an error, which allowed a runner to score, making the score 8-0 Union.
In the bottom of the 7th inning, New Haven scored its first runs. The Shamrocks scored by having three batters walk, two singles, and a double, making the final score 8-2 Union, with the Wildcats winning the game. After the game, Matthew Clines discussed his pitching: “ I wish I could have done better, but it is what it is.”
The next time the New Haven Shamrocks play is Monday, May 4th, against the Cuba Wildcats.
