New Haven’s next challenge was the District Championship match against the home team, the Calvary Lutheran Lions. “Mrs. Hoener told us that Calvary Lutheran’s fans were energetic and spirited, and we couldn’t let them get inside our heads,” stated junior Lauren Bergner. Calvary Lutheran’s spirit didn’t stop the Shamrocks, though. The Shamrocks won in a two set match, 25-9, 25-16.
When asked about how it felt to win districts, libero Trista Kormeier stated, “We accomplished one of our goals! It was really just an amazing feeling!”
Coach Jaime Hoener mentioned in the huddle, “Just stay confident and don’t be nervous. If you have fun and have a lot of energy you will be just fine.”
During the Smithton game, middle blocker Taylor Covington had 9 kills and two blocks. Outside hitter Kayla Borcherding also came in with 4 kills and 9 digs for the night. Against Calvary Lutheran, outside hitter Emma Borcherding had 5 kills, with a hitting percentage of 0.625. Setter Kenzy Vedder had 11 assists, and libero Trista Kormeier had 9 digs and 15 serve receptions.
The Shamrocks were 4-0 in district play, beating Smithton and Calvary Lutheran. For sectionals, the Lady Shamrocks are up to play Liberal on New Haven’s home turf. If the Shamrocks win, they will either play Osceola or Green Ridge. Come and cheer on the Shamrocks! Will they be able to make it to final four?
