On Wednesday, October 7th, the New Haven Softball team hopped on the bus to head to their district game at Clopton against the Silex Owls.
Wednesday was a very confusing day for all the teams in District 4. Earlier that day, a question arose about the Van-Far Indians’ eligibility to play due to a violation of a MSHSAA rule. When the violation was reported to MSHSAA, Van-Far was ruled ineligible to compete and was removed from the tournament. All the other teams moved up one seed, so New Haven was suppose to play Wellsville instead of Silex.
New Haven’s Athletic Director Ray Steinhoff stated, “Bottom line, it was a circumstance I have never seen happen before and it made for a confusing day -- not just for us, but for all involved.”
Due to those circumstances, New Haven played Silex at 7:00 p.m. instead of the original time of 6:00 p.m.. The Shamrocks were defeated by the Owls, 10-2, ending their 2015 season.
Even though the team wasn’t victorious all the time, they still played the sport they love with all their hearts. Congratulations Shamrock softball on your 2015 season!
