The Colony House is a homestyle restaurant that has been open in New Haven for nearly 35 years.
It was opened for the first time in April of 1980 when owners Curt and Kathie Zuroweste moved to New Haven with their 9 month old son, Zach. The building that they chose to house their business had been vacant for quite some time when they bought it. It had to be stripped down back to its skeleton. Mr. and Mrs. Zuroweste stated, “It was quite the job.”
The owners, Curt and Kathie Zuroweste, have been dutifully working in their restaurant since its beginning. Since opening the restaurant they have employed so many high schoolers that they have lost count. They have also added more members to their family, including their son Corey and their daughter Kjia.
Risa Allen, waitress, reports, “I love interacting with the regulars. It’s really cool to see the same people and know what they are going to get.”
Moriah Swoboda, cook, talks about her favorite part of working at the Colony House. “I love working with the other employees. Everyone who works here is so nice.”
