Laura Strickland was born and raised in Saint Louis, MO. She grew up in North County where she went to private schools throughout high school. She has two older brothers who still live in the area, along with her parents. Mrs. Strickland is starting her second year of teaching here at New Haven. Before teaching here, she worked in the business world. Her last corporate job was for Precision Foods where she was a product manager for their retail line of food products. While in graduate school, she worked part-time at Target in Chesterfield.
Mrs. Strickland is the business teacher at New Haven High School. She has always loved being involved with education, but becoming a teacher really wasn't on her radar at first. She loved marketing and the business world, but she was always drawn to education. As a product manager, she helped some high school students work on a project for their marketing class and that is when it clicked--she knew she wanted to teach.
For her education, she attended Truman State University in Kirksville, MO where she studied Business Administration in Marketing. Then, she received her Master’s Degree in education from Lindenwood University in St. Charles.
When Mrs. Strickland isn’t at school, she enjoys spending her time with her two boys; Cedric, 4th grade, and Henry, 2nd grade, and attending their activities. Her husband is a coach, so the family spends a lot of time at various sporting events such as soccer, rugby, baseball, and flag football. She also loves baking, and her specialty is cheesecakes. Yum! Furthermore, she loves interior design and graphic design. She is a huge St. Louis Blues fan and Cardinals fan!
There are many fun facts about Mrs. Strickland. For example, when she was a product manager, she appeared on several local television shows, such as Show Me St. Louis, Great Day St. Louis, and Fox 2. On these shows, she demonstrates Mrs. Wages’s line of salsa and guacamole mixes. Also, Mrs. Strickland has a rugby family--her husband played in college. He now coaches a high school team in Eureka and runs a rookie rugby camp over the summer, which her boys participate in.
We are thrilled to have Mrs. Strickland as a teacher and as the adviser of the school organization FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) at New Haven High!
