Jamie Miller is the motivated, engaged Family and Consumer Science teacher here at New Haven High School. Mrs. Miller’s full name is Jamie Lynn Miller (née Schowe). She has an older sister and a younger brother. She also has two kids: Lindsey, who is four years old, and Kelsey, who is two years old. Her husband’s name is Ryan, and he is a heavy equipment operator.
Mrs. Miller teaches middle school and high school FACS, Personal Finance, Foods, and Child Development here at NHHS. Not only is she an involved teacher, she is also the advisor for the New Haven High School chapter of FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America). When asked why she wanted to be the advisor of FCCLA, she said, “I was asked if I wanted to continue FCCLA when I was hired after Mrs. Steinhoff retired, and I said yes.”
Mrs. Miller grew up in New Haven and graduated from NHHS in 2004. She then went on to the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, MO, where she received dual credit in early childhood and elementary education. She graduated from UCM in 2008, and then received her Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction in 2011.
In her free time, Mrs. Miller likes spending time with family, baking, and crafting. When asked why she wanted to work at New Haven High School, she stated, “I wanted to work in New Haven because I graduated from here, and I knew it was a great district to work in and send my children to.” Her favorite thing about New Haven is the community and how everyone is willing to help each other out.
When asked what inspired her to become a FACS teacher, she pronounced, “It is more like who. Lori Peirick thought I would be a good FACS teacher and told me I should apply for the position. I thank her for helping me find my dream job.” Mrs. Miller’s biggest pet peeve is when students do not push in their chairs and put them in the correct spot.
If that wasn’t enough information on Mrs. Miller, here are a few more interesting facts! Her favorite show is “Nashville”, her favorite song is “Mind Your Own Biscuits” by Kacey Musgraves, her favorite movie is “Dirty Dancing”, and her favorite food is pizza.
On behalf of New Haven High School, thank you, Mrs. Miller, for being a part of the Shamrock team and motivating us to do better every day!
