For volleyball players, summer is not a time to relax, but a time to work hard and prepare for the season ahead. This year’s summer agenda consists of numerous open gyms, the camp held at New Haven High School, and the Licking Camp that is held in Arnold.
Additionally, the juniors and seniors who are involved are asked to help out as much as possible with the younger players’ camps. Mrs. Hoener, stated, “I need help with the younger kids because there are a lot of them, and sometimes it just gets to be too much.”
Along with the camps that are offered to the players, there are also workout sessions. There have been many different workout choices in previous years. Last year there was Workout Warrior and weight training. Workout Warrior consists of many stations outside in the back of the high school. Workout Warrior was designed to condition the players. Weight training is more for building strength.
Many of the players have the view that the summer is an essential time to prepare for volleyball. Upcoming senior Maddie Fleer was asked what she was going to be involved in this summer. She answered with, “Everything I can!”
Erin Scheer and Maddie Fleer agreed that their least favorite summer volleyball activity was “for sure getting up at 5 or 5:30 for Workout Warrior,” while Emma Borcherding stated, “I like all of the summer volleyball activities.”
Summer is the time for some to relax, and others to prepare. It will be evident during the fall season which way the players decided to spend their summer.
