For most people, the beginning of 2016 starts with trying to uphold their new year’s resolutions. But for the 6th grade students at New Haven Elementary, the beginning of 2016 starts with the study of China.
To celebrate the Chinese New Year, both 6th grade classes broke up into three groups. The students then spent 3 days decorating and designing their dragons. On their dragons, students included Chinese characters to spell out different words.
The students present their dragons at a Chinese New Year parade put on for the entire elementary school. Music plays over the intercom, and the dragons are shown off to all of the students.
Every class is given a red envelope that they are assigned to give to a specific dragon. After the parade, each group opens their envelope and finds a prize. One dragon is selected as the best dragon of the year, and receives another envelope.
All in all, this year’s 6th grade Chinese New Year Parade was a success!
