September 23rd and 24th, New Haven held its annual Balloon Glow and Balloon Race at the New Haven City Park. This is a festival where friends and family get together to enjoy a weekend of good food, beautiful weather, and quality time together.
The Balloon Glow was on Friday, September 23rd. This event occurred from 6:00 P.M. to around 8:00 P.M. The balloons were set up a little before dark, and people were able to come out to the city park and relax on this cool, September evening. During this time, each balloon took a turn lighting up to show off its bright and beautiful colors to the delighted crowd. When New Haven senior Emily Lewis was asked about her thoughts on the Balloon Glow, she responded, “It's just really enjoyable to see our entire community come together for one night to enjoy each other's company at this local festival!”
The following day, Saturday, September 24th, was the more eventful day of this festival. The afternoon started out with a parade, which included a variety of floats accompanied by the New Haven High School marching band. Following the parade, people began to set up their blankets and claim the best spots to watch the balloons take off. While the crowds were waiting, they were welcome to roam about and check out the stands set up. These stands offered things like soda, cotton candy, barbecue, and much more! When Taylor Oetterer was asked what her favorite thing about the balloon festival was, she exclaimed, “Getting together with all my friends to just have a good time.”
The Balloon Festival is an event that families and friends always look forward to. If you missed the Balloon Festival this year, make sure you check out the activities it has to offer next fall!
