On October 14, 2019, the New Haven Shamrocks Cross Country team ran at Owensville High school. The high school races started with JV boys, followed by Varsity girls, and ending with Varsity boys. There were thirteen teams including New Haven at the meet. Both Varsity teams for New Haven got 6th overall. After the meet the athletes were asked a few questions.
The first question asked was how the athletes felt they ran.
Senior Keagan Huff simply said, “Okay.”
Senior Austin Tegeler said, “I felt I ran pretty [well]. I medaled in 9th place, which is pretty good.”
Junior Emma McIntyre replied, “I felt I ran pretty well. It rained during our race, making the course slick, but overall it was pretty good.”
The next question asked was if there is anything the athletes feel they need to work on.
Austin Tegeler replied, “I think I could probably work on some more hill training and work on the endurance on the hills.”
Junior Caroline Otten said, “I need to work on starting faster in the beginning of our races and pushing myself a little more.”
Junior Hannah Borcherding answered, “I need to work on pushing myself when going up hills and striding out more on downhills.”
The last question asked was if there were any goals the athletes have accomplished so far.
Emma McIntyre said, “My goal this season was to beat my Personal Best time and even though I haven’t beat it yet, I still have the rest of the season to do it.”
Hannah Borcherding replied, “One of my goals was to work on my endurance and push myself more in races, and I feel I’ve been doing that so far this season.”
Austin Tegeler explained, “A goal was to medal in every meet and I’ve medaled in every one except one, so I’d say I’ve accomplished a goal.”
Great job, Shamrocks, and good luck with the rest of your season!
