Recently, the New Haven High School’s band and choir programs underwent conference auditions and performances.
The band conference performances were held on January 19th and January 26th. They were supposed to be on only one day, January 19th, but the bad weather forced them to have to finish the performances on a different day. The choir performance was held on February 16th.

To get into the Conference Band, students first have to go through an audition process. After the audition, if students make it into the band, they have a rehearsal all day on the following Saturday. Then, they have performances the following Tuesday at two Four River Conference schools.

From NHHS, seniors Abby Perdue, Josh Lindley, and Nathan Allgaier all made it into the Conference Band.

“I was extremely nervous, it was the second most nerve-wracking time so far in my life. I was really excited when I heard that I made the band. I was the only one who was really whooping and hollering for themselves,” stated Abby Perdue.

The band director for New Haven, Mandy Koch, said, “The conference band students did an amazing job on their auditions, rehearsal, and performances.  Their conductor, Mr. Mark Blackmore, picked some really interesting and exciting music for them to play and I think they learned a lot from the experience.”

Conference Choir also includes an audition process. Only four students from each section are allowed to make it into the Conference Choir. Once they make it into the Conference Choir, they spend a day practicing four songs that they will perform. This year they practiced at Union High School.

Junior Nicki Zeitzmann stated, “It’s an incredible experience and was so much fun!”

“As a freshman, I was super nervous to do Conference Choir, but when we went to Union for practice, I realized I had no reason to be worried. Conference Choir was a really fun and new experience that I would like to continue for the rest of high school. . .We had a lot of fun meeting new people and performing in front of our school and Union!” said freshman Elsie McNabb, regarding her first time participating in the choir.

New Haven High School had the honor of hearing the Conference Choir perform at our school, and there was a lot of positive feedback during and after the performance.

Both the Conference Choir and Conference Band sounded amazing and did a great job at their performances this year.

Congratulations to everyone who made it into the choir and band!
