Future Business Leaders of America, otherwise known as FBLA, is an organization that prepares students for their future roles in society and in their business careers.
New Haven High School’s FBLA members have state competitions coming up on April 2-4 in Springfield, MO. These members include students who participated in districts on February 17 and ranked high enough to move on to the next set of competitions.
A total of 26 students qualified for state competitions. This includes students who participated in presentations and tests.
Students who qualified for state competitions had previously competed in district competitions. Students pick an event to either present or test in. Each event has set limits on who will proceed to the next round. If ranked high enough, they will be eligible to compete in state competitions.
Taylor Oetterer, who participated in the Social Media Campaign, was asked how she feels about state competitions coming up, and she responded, “I’m excited to see what kind of competition state competitions has to offer. I feel confident in my event and can't wait to present it to the judges!”
Kelsey River, adviser of FBLA, was asked about her thoughts on the qualifying members, and she responded, “I commend all of the members who competed in competition this year, as they put in a lot of extra hours to prepare. Additionally, their drive and positive attitude was very evident and praiseworthy. I am extremely proud of all of the members who qualified for the FBLA State Competition this year and look forward to attending for the first time as an adviser. All of these students have continued to work hard to help better themselves for their tests or presentations.”
LeeAnna Linton, who tested in Insurance and Risk Management, has already completed her state test but will be attending the state competitions. She was asked what she is looking forward to most, and she responded, “I am most excited for the Senior Banquet that will be held at the event. It is going to be a great opportunity to be with the NHHS seniors of FBLA one last time.”
The state competitors will leave on April 2 to start their competitions and return to school on April 4. If competitors place high enough, they will advance to the national rounds June 29-July 2 in Anaheim, California.
