What can the power of persuasive writing do? Matthew Laune, an 8th grader at New Haven Middle School, is finding out first hand.
Matthew’s teacher, Mrs. Westermeyer, gave her students an assignment: to write a persuasive letter urging companies to send samples, promotional items, or other kinds of products.
After sending his letter to Mystery Tackle Box, Matthew actually received a response.
In regards to receiving a response from Mystery Tackle Box, Matthew states that he was “excited, shocked, and surprised” that he heard back from the company.
So, what is Mystery Tackle Box?
Mystery Tackle Box is a monthly subscription service that sends different kinds of fishing lures to its members every month. Along with the new lures, Mystery Tackle Box also sends an “About Your Box” card that explains the purposes of the products and a link to their website (mysterytacklebox.com) where subscribers can find more information and watch videos about the products from within their box.
For Matthew Laune, choosing “Mystery Tackle Box” as his company was a no-brainer.
“I chose Mystery Tackle Box because I love its products. Every month, not only do I receive new lures, I receive high quality ones. With Mystery Tackle Box, I pay $15 and end up with lures that add up to be more than the $15. I definitely get the most for my money!” exclaims Matthew.
The middle schoolers’ letters and emails have only been out for about a week, yet many students are excited as they patiently wait for a response. Since finding out about the response that Matthew received, other students are anxious to hear back from other companies.
Through this project, the middle schoolers have learned that the art of letter writing is still important today.
