I look over the horizon of the city, watching as the sky changes from a dull blue to burnt oranges and crisp reds, following the burning ball of fury. I clench my fists by my side, knowing what will come of the night. Car horns blare and sirens wail throughout the city below, throwing me into the growing reality of my plan. Not only will I have him on my tail tonight, I will have the police and SWAT team right behind me. I never really thought about the police force taking part to reverse my devious plan to infiltrate the city, but will it really change my mind? No, definitely not.
“Are you sure your plan is going to work?” Skylar asks me in a cowering way. She doesn’t mean to disrespect me. “I mean, I know how skilled you are in computers and stuff, but I’m just curious. Are we going to get caught?”
“How unsure are you on a scale of 1-10?” I ask.
“About an 11 would describe it,” Skylar responds quickly, not even taking a moment to think about my question.
I spin in my computer chair, staring at the blank black screen. As of right now, all I have to do is input a single command, and the whole banking system I am currently targeting will go haywire. It’s kind of like a bomb in the security system. It blows up the whole program and wipes it clean, giving me about 20 minutes to get into the bank and get out with all the treasures. Or, in this case, money.
I glance down at my clock, looking at the time. It is 5:55 as of right now, giving me about five minutes to make my command.
“What about ‘you know who’?” Skylar nudges me.
I glance quickly up at her. “What about him?”
“He’s going to try to stop you, you know?”
“You say that like you want him to,” I respond quickly, feeling a hint of betrayal from Skylar.
I know “you know who” is a threat to my master plan. I know that he’s going to try to save the day and prove to the city that he’s innocent. He’s going to use me as a way to get in good with New York, to get a good reputation. He’s going to try to destroy my plan, but I have a plan for him. Being as he’s a superhero and all, he’s got his secrets too.
“No, of course not,” Skylar admits, scratching the back of her head.
I shake my head, looking over the city once more. I can see the sun setting over the distant horizon, telling me that my plan will take action soon. I know the potential danger for this plan of mine. I can be captured by the new superhero or even by the New York Police Department (NYPD). Even though there are some dangers, I’ve thought all of it through. I see no faults in my plan, even with the new superhero in town.
“It wouldn’t matter if you did,” I respond, reaching down to press my fingers on the keypad. “Because my plan is already active.” And I press the code in, watching as the security at the bank crashes.
“Let’s go!” I yell to my group. We’re headed out to gather our riches.
