The cheerleaders hold this annual fundraiser to get to know each other better than they did when they went into tryouts at the beginning of the year, all while earning the money to pay for their uniforms. Memories are made while having fun and working.
“My sophomore year, it was freezing,” explained Karissa Durbin. “I stood in the food trailer all bundled up with Jenny, Mariah, and Adam, waiting for my shift to be over so I could go roam around to all the booths. It really was worth it to work with the other cheerleaders and make friendships that would last a lifetime.”
“Fire Fest is warm and amazing with wonderful things for you to see. It’s fun and also puts New Haven on the map,” added Emily Moreno.
When asked, some cheerleaders expressed why they like participating in the fundraiser or why they don’t.
“I would rather explore the booths with friends instead of working, but it’s still a fun experience,” explained Emily Lewis.
“It’s a really great experience!” exclaimed Stephanie Russo.
Firefest always draws a big crowd and is one of the things that makes New Haven unique. From the food to the fire, the cheerleading season has finally begun.
