In the nearing winter of 2015 a senior of NHHS named Garret Shoenfeld had taken in a abandoned and abused dog who was only one year old and had been finding her own food. We believe she was abandoned because she had been staying in the middle of nowhere waiting for the previous owner to return. Garret had seen the dog for about a week and one day he had come close to hitting her, so he had picked her up and brought her to the Moeckli House where the dog got a name: Katie Elizabeth Moeckli. She was very skinny-almost to where you could see her rib cage.
Later that night Katie was taken to the vet where we found out that she was a female, and she wasn’t chipped so Melissa Moeckli, the wife of Jeff Moeckli, mother of Kierstin Monzyk and Carter Moeckli, and Step-mother of Chase Moeckli, posted the lost dog’s picture and information on facebook. One month went by and nobody responded to her post.
Katie got a well balanced diet and now is a 61 lbs dog who is about three years old. So far Katie has found a permanent home at the Moeckli home. She shows her appreciation by bringing them gifts of dead rodents and deer legs to their front yard during the summer. Katie is now a permanent part of the family, and as far as they can tell she loves her new home.
