New Haven’s junior varsity scholar bowl team competed in the Montgomery County High School tournament on February 20, finishing third out of 12 teams. It was the team’s best finish all season.
The JV team was 4-1 in pool play during the preliminary rounds. With wins over Owensville (380-130), Mark Twain (400-120), Silex (330-140), and Montgomery County (240-130), their first loss was to Elsberry with a score of 250-380.
After the preliminary rounds, New Haven qualified for the semifinals against Orchard Farm, who eventually went on to win the tournament. After falling to Orchard Farm 230-400, the team bounced back in the third place game against Wellsville-Middletown 310-180.
In addition to the third place team finish, New Haven’s Kalli Stubblefield also finished among the top individual scorers and received a 4th place medal.
When asked about the team’s performance at the tournament, scholar bowl coach Jared Pruessner said, “We’ve been working hard in practice lately on a few specific things and it was great to see that pay off. ”
