Heart & Sole is a physical activity-based positive youth development program designed specifically for girls in grades 6, 7, and 8. The innovative, research-based curricula include workouts and games that teach important life skills while preparing the girls for a 5k. Girls are challenged to reach personal goals regardless of fitness level. Each Heart & Sole team consists of 8-17 girls and two trained coaches, which provides positive peer group experiences as well as role models for healthy living. Heart & Sole is so much more than an after school program. It is a philosophy. It not only impacts the girls who participate in the program, but also the volunteer coaches who deliver it and the many community members who support our program and mission. This provides an environment for all girls and women that nurtures, develops, and celebrates their strengths.
This Saturday on November 12th, there will be a 5k in St. Louis for all the girls, coaches, and running buddies who have participated in the Fall 2016 season. The New Haven Heart & Sole team will also be running with the Girls on the Run team from New Haven Elementary.
