New Haven, MO - On January 7, at approximately 7:33 PM, deputies responded to the 3000 block of Lakeshore Dr, New Haven in the Whispering Valley Subdivision to assist New Haven/Berger Fire at a structure fire. A metal shed outbuilding had caught fire and the resident was burned. The victim, a white male, age 41 was transported by New Haven Ambulance to Mercy Washington and later air lifted to Mercy in Creve Coeur.
During transport the victim told medical staff he was attempting to cook methamphetamine and the lab exploded. Narcotics detectives responded to the scene. Evidence at the scene did show components of a methamphetamine lab. The victim appears to have been the only subject in the building at the time.
Although at one time a common encounter for law enforcement, methamphetamine labs have reduced dramatically over the past few years in Franklin County and other states. The highest number of labs encountered in Franklin County were reported in 2002 at 152. Labs began reducing substantially after 2012. Those figures show a reduction to:
2012 -------------102 labs,
2013---------------68 labs,
2014---------------21 labs,
2015----------------5 labs.
