FBLA hosted the basket raffle this year on February 1st, at the Homecoming basketball game. The drawing was during the halftime of the boys’ varsity game. All of the FBLA members had to sell the tickets and/or booklets for the raffle as part of their service activity to go on the field trip.
“The basket raffle takes place to help raise money for a member of our local community that has fallen on hard times or has had unexpected expenses occur,” said Mrs. Kelsey Anderson, FBLA sponsor. “FBLA has been sponsoring the basket raffle for a number of years and it has always been a great success, with lots of support from the community. This year was no different, as we raised a little over $1,100.”
Baskets are donated from clubs and organizations from around the school, including the Central Office, FBLA, FCA, FCCLA, Girls Volleyball & Basketball teams, National Honor Society, and the Publications class. The winners of the baskets this year were as follows: the BBQ basket winner was Elizabeth Meade, the car care basket was Jenna Colter, and the cash basket was Thomas Ley. The other baskets went to Jodi Engelbrecht with the ice cream social basket, Danny Delgado with the Lil' Tour of Hermann basket, Carol Burkhardt with the movie night basket, and Emma Jo Eichelberger with the organization basket.
Some of the members of FBLA signed up to be on the committee for the basket raffle. These members had to put booklets together, collect the tickets sold before and after school, and try to sell tickets at the game.
These members were asked how they felt about the turnout of the basket raffle, and they replied:
“I thought the basket raffle went great this year,” said Olivia Williams. “We incorporated a lot of new baskets, and I think people really enjoyed the variety! We raised about $1000 to donate to a local family in need which was the best part of this fundraiser. I am very grateful that our community is so supportive and is always there to lend a helping hand to families in need! I think the way the basket raffle is run is very efficient.”
McKenzie Overschmidt said, “The basket raffle went really well and super smooth! We made a lot of money and everyone enjoyed the baskets we had selected!”
Sounds like FBLA put on a great basket raffle this year. Remember to keep in mind that FBLA hosts this event every year. So, even if you did not win a basket this year, there is always next year to try and win!
